MATHEW FLATOW
Business Law, Employment Law, Litigation, Transactional Law, Workers' Compensation
As a lawyer and a small business owner, Mathew views his cases with a singular focus: to solve the problems faced by his clients. Mathew has extensive experience as a trial lawyer who has handled complex cases such as non-compete violations involving billion-dollar multi-national corporations, inflammatory defamation attacks against local businesses, catastrophic personal injury cases and million-dollar contractual disputes. Since co-founding SeiferFlatow, PLLC in 2011, he has focused on achieving the best possible results for every client embroiled in a legal dispute or requiring personalized legal advice. His unceasing commitment to satisfied clients is the hallmark of his practice.
Though legal battles can sometimes be long and grueling, Mathew is a steadfast advocate; he works tirelessly to address his clients’ needs. He helps his clients find peace of mind even in the face of a legal battle. Clients value Mathew’s ability to translate complicated scientific and technical subjects—from forensic analysis of a multi-national company’s claims of lost sales to the effect of a defamation campaign on a small business’ bottom line through diminished search engine standing—into straightforward, accessible presentations to arbitrators, judges and juries. He has presented or cross-examined experts in more than a dozen disciplines, including accounting, forensic accounting, economics, human resources, psychology, epidemiology, pulmonology, radiology, internal medicine, orthopedic surgery, toxicology, accident reconstruction and structural engineering.

Over his career, Mathew has tried more than 100 cases and argued before numerous courts across the country, including U.S. courts of appeals, U.S. district courts, North Carolina State Superior Court, North Carolina State District Court, North Carolina State Business Court and the North Carolina Industrial Commission. An invited instructor for law school trial advocacy and mediation programs, Mathew regularly speaks on a variety of litigation topics, including strategic case development.

"The best way to get results for our clients is to take each of their cases as unique entities and work them from the ground up. It is not our process to fit a case into a previous box to save the time or effort. Each case is analyzed with the mentality that it is the first case we have ever handled. This means we take nothing for granted and consider even the most fundamental elements, still utilizing our firm’s vast experience to tailor the best approach to each client’s case."
As a lawyer and a small business owner, Mathew has a passion for helping businesses. From startup assistance to helping businesses protect what they've built and manage healthy growth, he views his cases with a singular focus: to solve the problems faced by his clients.

Mathew Flatow and Liz Vennum are by far the best attorneys anyone could ask for. They treated me like family and fought every day to get me a fair settlement. Their office is inviting and the entire staff is welcoming. The time and preparation they put into my case were remarkable and thanks to them I can move forward with my life. I highly recommend them to anyone needing counsel and I cannot thank them enough for turning my negative situation into a positive one.

I own a 15 person construction company and was having trouble with a minority owner. Mathew went through our bylaws and corporate documents and found a way to remove the minority owner and get our company back on track. Truly impressed by his aggressive problem-solving. I will keep going back for my business issues. He really gets it. His staff is wonderful too. Good team over there.
